Prayer Connect

Prayer Connect: January 26, 2010

1/27/2010

"Jesus, I am so proud of you" were the words that slipped from lips last week.  All spiritual activities that manifest later in a physical way were first conceived in the womb of prayer and prayer rooms perhaps should be called prayer wombs.

Without even realizing what I had said, these words came from my lips last week, "I am so proud of You, Jesus!" What? I am so proud of you Jesus. Those are the words I spoke to Jesus in prayer.  We have answers to prayer all around us, yet we often complain or whine about what Jesus has NOT done.

What had triggered my burst of exultation?  Jesus Christ had just done something that was totally unexpected and that one event had affected a lot of people that I know and with whom I work regularly. It was massive, and the way Jesus had pulled it off was so, forgive me for this word, COOL.

Many of us had prayed about a particular issue that would affect those about me.  We had spent much time in the prayer womb.  And then fortuitously (although He does nothing by chance) came the answer so calmly and so firmly.

Some of you are workaholics, not only physically but in the spiritual realm.  Our kinds of personalities often over-emphasize the work that it yet to done and often fail to acknowledge the vast amount thing that have been accomplished.  I personally tend to brood over what has yet to be done, and often that can lead to an ungrateful attitude.

Stop right now and consider that fact that there are answers to pray all around you. Name a few right now, aloud. Your family, your home, your church and the job that is coming your way right now! Why not say to Jesus what we say to family and friends so often, "Jesus, I am so proud of You."  I am proud of the way You walked the road to Calvary and accomplished our redemption.

WORLD NEEDS

Sri Lanka - The January 26, 2010 voting will decide the next president of Sri Lanka. Twenty-two candidates are in the running, but the two leaders are President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former army chief General Sarath Fonseka. These two men are described as "hardliners and warmongers" by their opposition.

Both Rajapaksa and Fonseka were involved in the decades-long battle against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Despite their partnership in the war - Rajapaksa as commander-in-chief and Fonseka in charge of the military - they are now running against each other.

Some observers believe the division between these two frontrunners came as they fought over the spoils of the war. After defeating the LTTE, they both claimed credit for the victory and began to scramble for power.

None of the other candidates is thought to have a serious chance of winning the election. President Rajapaksa's reelection was considered a veritable certainty until Fonseka entered the contest.

In a strange turn of events, the outcome of the election may hinge on the minority Tamils. With the rest of the population nearly equally divided between Rajapaksa and Fonseka, the Tamils (12% of the population) could wind up placing the deciding votes.

The Campaign for Free and Fair Elections is convinced that the Sri Lankan presidential elections scheduled for January 26, 2010 will not be free or fair. Others are worried that voting will result in violence. Five people have already been killed and many others injured in election-related conflicts.

Sri Lanka is listed number 40 on the Open Doors World Watch List 2010.

PRAY FOR:

  • a violence-free election in Sri Lanka. Pray for the Lord to give the government strategies for ensuring the safety of their people. (The Bible, Psalm 29:11)
  • fair and free voting that will reflect the heart of the people in choosing leaders. Pray for the Lord to direct all segments of society and every ethnic group in deciding who will best serve them and their nation. (The Bible, Psalm 103:6)
  • the Lord to root out corruption in the government and expose manipulative motives and schemes being planned by those who are lusting after power. (The Bible, Psalm 25:21)
  • the Lord Himself to raise up the president who will bless and honor Sri Lanka by walking in integrity and acting as a servant leader. (The Bible, Daniel 2:21; Luke 22:25,26)
  • the fear of the Lord to be upon those in government. Pray for them to realize and appreciate the responsibility being placed upon them. Pray for the Lord to give them wisdom. (The Bible, Proverbs 1:7)
  • the protection of the people of Sri Lanka - especially the minority Tamils and Christians. Pray for the Lord to prevent the outbreak of another civil war. (The Bible, Psalm 37:28)
  • Believers to spread the fragrance of Christ throughout Sri Lanka, boldly sharing the Gospel and interceding on behalf of their nation. (The Bible, II Corinthians 2:14)
  • the Kingdom of God to come to Sri Lanka as it is in Heaven. Pray for the Holy Spirit to be poured out and for multitudes of people to come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (The Bible, Matthew 6:10; I Timothy 2:4)
